1.
Somewhere the operation failed on a table surrounded by halogen lamps. The good doctors checked their watches on our anniversary. There’s such a sterile feeling in this room. Just so you know, you can only parade yourself like this for so long before the rest catch on. Oh you’re so obvious, at the end of every line with a comma. You never had the gut for this. I guess I know who my real friends are.
2.
So you say you want to make art, but you don’t have the heart or the words worth repeating. Not that you could ever sell it in those jeans. I think you forget it’s not the voice so much as how you wear it. The interest isn’t in a drug of choice, it’s in the price of the high. You’re climbing the tiers on a campaign trail to make something so personal a high commodity. Oh there are so many holes in your story. So you want to be a high commodity. Congratulations, you’ve sold your story. You’re a long ways away from the coastal climates you’re used to. I think you forget the business you’re in.
3.
Ballroom poise, the girls are dressing their intent to get a taste for keeping pace. The speaker lifts his glass, “To dearest friends that will not last.” They drink the pearls. There’s an etiquette to always faking it with the straightest of faces. It’s all about the way you present yourself with the straightest of faces. Novelty! Novelty! Gleaming lipstick, chain and gag. Show your teeth if you can bite it back. Skin grafts of all your mistresses. It’s such an exhibition. You’re in when you’re invited back. I’ll stay at home.
4.
After Party 03:44
Dancing behind closed doors. A marathon of nosebleeds, heads down on the glass. Your eyes are red and you’re convinced you’re made of gold. And you won’t stop until you’re finding inspiration on the bathroom floor. The night’s not over until it’s overdone, until you overindulge. The night’s not over until you’re over her. Tonight we’re on top of the world and we’re not coming down. Rehearsal. I’ll see you in the ICU.
